U.S. Mint Review

What is U.S. Mint?

U.S. Mint is a bureau that is under its parent organization, the Department of Treasury with the authority and responsibility to produce coinage for the country.

Moreover, it oversees the movement and trade of bullion. However, the U.S. Mint does not produce any forms of paper money. This responsibility belongs to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.

It was founded in 1972 in Philadelphia. Since then, the U.S. Mint has been manufacturing the country's coinage for its trade and commerce.

Today, it has 6 facilities around the United States: Philadelphia, San Francisco, Denver, West Point in New York, Fort Knox and Washington, DC.

The U.S. Mint has an e-commerce website that allows people to shop for their products online. You can see the link above in the quick summary.

Upon researching about the U.S. Mint, I came upon another website, https://usagovmint.com. Upon visiting this website, it looks very similar to the actual U.S. Mint website.

But it looks kind of fishy because of the low-quality pictures in it, as well as its interface. Moreover, the contact us page shows that its location is in Alabama. This is weird because the U.S. Mint does not have a facility in this location.

Lastly, the URL is also fishy. Usually, when government agencies have their websites, they use gov as their top-level domain. This website, https://usagovmint.com, seems like it only copied the original link and used .com as its domain.

So when you are interested in buying coins from the U.S. Mint, use its actual website.

Another thing that you should know is to not confuse U.S. Mint with American Mint. The latter is a coin and collectibles provider that is not in any way, tied with the government.

U.S. Mint Products

The U.S. Mint provides various kinds of coin products including proof, commemorative and uncirculated coins. Gold and silver bullion coins are also available.

Moreover, the U.S. Mint website has an online shop. The product categories are the following: coins, medals, paper currency, engraved prints, subscriptions, gift ideas and collections.

Apart from the product catalog, the website also has a feature that shows the year's product schedule. Basically, clients can see the kinds of coins and products that will be available in a given period of time.

In this way, they can check in advance the products they are interested in. And they can also choose the option to be notified once these products are available.

U.S. Mint Services

E-commerce website

The U.S. Mint has an e-commerce website. This allows customers to shop its products online. Moreover, the website does reveal the prices of each of these products.

This is a big deal because there are several precious metals and coin providers out there that do not reveal the prices of their products. Clients need to contact them first before they can know.

Tours and facilities

The U.S. Mint also offers tours to its Philadelphia and Denver facilities. And what makes this unique is the fact that it has two kinds of tours!

One is a virtual tour. Clients can download an app from Google Play and App Store and get to experience the facilities of the U.S. Mint from their mobile phones and gadgets!

The other one are in-person tours. Clients can personally get to visit facilities!

In this way, clients are given the opportunity to learn about the state of the coin manufacturing industry, as well as the history of the mint.

Bulk purchase program

U.S. Mint offers a program to its clients wherein they can purchase products in bulk. There are two kinds: Numismatic Bulk Purchase Program and Circulating Coin Bulk Purchase Program.

Moreover, there are certain requirements that a client must meet if he/she is interested in these programs.

Some of these requirements include being a full-time licensed coin dealer, as well as a minimum number of bulk bag.

You can check the requirements in its website.

The U.S. Mint rewards its most loyal customers with this program. With that being said, a client must have made 3 or more purchases with the mint within a year to qualify for this program.

These clients will enjoy the free budget shipping in the same year that these purchases are made.

Apart from these services, the U.S. Mint values education and information. It has materials in its website that informs its clients about its history, the production process, collecting basis and many more.

In fact, it also has a website that is for kids, which also contains child-friendly content about the industry. And, it has fun games that the kids will truly enjoy.
